Game, Set, and Match for VGG

Trying to juggle a ton of blogs at once that I’m writing on to varying amounts (there are 5 still in existence), and a very scarce amount of free time, I’ve decided to once and for all stop my video games blog, Video Games Guide, at least, and free myself from worrying about another blog. Writing has been very rare on that blog anyways recently and I’ve decided to free myself from it.

Instead, I’m focusing from now on on a reviews blog I co-founded where video games reviews will be written by me and others. Feel free to check it out at alreadybooked.wordpress.com. On that blog, too, we’re starting back up again full-time on 1st February, so check back there for posts every day except for Sunday.

I’ll leave the URL running, just because I’m a bit nostalgic about deleting this blog forever. I’m disappointed VGG never quite became what I wanted it to be, and that’s completely my fault.

Thanks for a great 25 months of completely on-and-off writing. Hope you enjoyed it.

By the way, I’m thinking about what I should do with this blog, The News of Sports, and Fresh Fantasy Help. I have been actively thinking about shutting them both down and starting some sort of new sports blog focusing on one or two sports, instead of all of them.

Also, I’ve started writing part-time on my friend’s golf blog, Up and Down Golf Blog. Visit it at upanddowngolf.wordpress.com.

Thanks.

Update

I’ll be away from the computer for the next 3 1/2 to 4 weeks, so there won’t be any posts during that time on any of my blogs. Thanks for the support and I’m disappointed I didn’t get to start my new feature (I won’t share what it is yet) before now, but I’ll try my best to post about once per day once I come back. Have a great summer.

Beware of Marlins Park, Fantasy Owners…Beware of Marlins Park

Marlins Park is HUGE! (Credit: Miami Herald)

After watching the opening game (well, in the USA at least) of the 2012 MLB season, I’ve reached one realization: Marlins Park is gigantic. Twice Giancarlo Stanton (more on him later) absolutely smashed a ball that should’ve would’ve been gone in any other ballpark to deep center field, and twice he was out on one of the deepest fly ball outs I’ve ever seen. Previously Injured Pitchers to Watch For…

I said in my previous post that I’d have a few posts before the beginning of the season about certain players to watch for. Well, today, I’m looking at pitchers who were injured for most or all of the 2011 season who are coming back this year. Continue reading

Fantasy Baseball Kick-Off!

I’ve decided to skip the fantasy baseball mock drafts this year, partly due to time (or the lack of it, as I’m on vacation). Instead, I’m just going to write about a few key players to watch out for, and my opinions. Tell me what you think.

Fantasy Baseball!

Fantasy Baseball’s officially here! With the season starting this week, I’ll attempt (key word there: attempt) to still do the two mock draft and write-ups, but no guarantees there, as the past few weeks have made it extremely difficult to keep up with any of my blogs.

How much is too much?

After playing fantasy sports for about 2 years now, I’ve wondered to myself about how aggressive you should be when trying to upgrade your teams many times before. I’ve wondered to myself if there’s a limit to the amount that you trade or use the waiver wire to change your team. I must admit that I tend to lean much more on the side of caution, and only make a trade or a pickup that I think will definitely make an impact.

I know some people who are very, very aggressive with their moves. Just an example, but Clark, the writer for basketballonmymind.wordpress.com, is one of those people. It’s not a bad or good thing, as long as you can manage that. Clark does an excellent job micromanaging his team, especially in the fantasy basketball league both of us are in. He has 1 loss, and has been near flawless with his moves, so his strategy definitely works. For me, since last year I had a fantastic year in all fantasy sports in both private and public leagues (not to brag or anything, honestly), I tended to be on the cautious side this year. However, I haven’t performed up to standards.

I might revisit this topic later on, it’s just one of many things going on in my mind that I wonder about.

Also, fantasy baseball coverage will be ramped up very soon, just I’m coming out with a bunch of new posts on my regular blog, The News of Sports, so I just need a bit of patience. Thanks so much.

Fantasy Baseball Alert!

Things at FFH (as well as all my blogs, to be honest) have been really inactive recently, so I’ll try to get things started back up fully on FFH in the next few days. Fantasy Baseball’s arriving, so expect lots of coverage on that, as well as fantasy basketball/hockey coverage.

Mock Drafts will be out in a few days, and I’ll ramp up the updates on my fantasy basketball team. Also, just to make an announcement…

Bloggers League Baseball is here!

So you should either contact me by comment or email, or contact Sam, from Sam’s Sports Brief, the commissioner this year. We’re looking to have a draft in a matter of a few weeks. So please, if you’re interested, feel free to contact either of us. Thanks.

Jeremy Lin: For Real?

In a little under the past month, the legend of Jeremy Lin has taken the NBA- as well as the sporting world- by storm. From New York to Taiwan, Lin’s country of ancestry, “Linsanity” (which is being used so much now, it should be in the dictionary, I must add) has been the main story.

I absolutely love him as a player, and think he’s the best thing that could have ever happened to the previously struggling Knicks who are now hovering around .500. However, I do wonder something. Is Jeremy Lin a good fantasy player and will he continue to be?

Before you make a decision, consider what I’m about to say. Jeremy Lin’s a very good player, maybe even great, but he’s not an elite player in fantasy. At least, not yet.

First, let’s look at right now, shall we? I remember seeing after his breakout game against the Nets, where he scored 25 points and wowed everyone on the court, in attendance, and watching on TV. What I found pretty funny was how in the next two days, Lin’s Percentage Owned shot up from literally 0.0% to 100%. Currently, up to the All-Star break, Lin has amassed 300 fantasy points at 14.3 fantasy points per game, which is super impressive considering how little he’s played. Right now, it’s fair to say that Lin’s a quality player to have in your team, and definitely a starter, except for in a really shallow league (meaning a small league where many great players are available).

But is Jeremy Lin a player that you’d like to have on your team year in and year out? That question all depends on another one. Will Jeremy Lin keep playing like the way he’s been playing in the last few weeks? Was this all a mirage? That still hasn’t been answered.

I guess there’s no way of solving the second question I had, then. Sigh. Sadly, I can’t predict the future. But I can say this. I think that Jeremy Lin will be a solid player for years to come. His style of play just works well, and he’ll continue to score 15+ points per game, dish out 7-8 assists per game, and grab 4-5 rebounds, which he’s capable of doing. His defense needs work, however. Still, the Knicks have to be very happy with this Harvard graduate.
